MUS 214J – (Improv) Jazz Harmony

Course Objective:
Learning jazz theory in a practical setting.
A. Review chord/scale relationships
B. Chord Spelling/voice leading
C. Harmonization/Re-Harmonization techniques
D. Tri-tone subs
E. Transcription and Composition analysis

Grade Components:
Assignments/Quizzes – 40 percent
Mid-Term – 30 percent written exam
Final – 30 percent written exam

Grade will be lowered 1/3 for every unexcused class missed over 10 percent of the total number of classes. (You are allowed 3 “absents” before your grade will be affected).
